Concise and precise

You don’t miss a thing and your knowledge can be relied upon: whether it is in the secretaries’ office, as a clerical assistant or in the Human Resources department. Administrative employees support and organise numerous important processes at GLS – mostly in the background and always down to the last detail. That’s the only way things work.

Romy Scharmberg, Executive Assistant

Multitasking? Not a challenge for Romy Scharmberg. For almost 20 years now she has been at the side of our management team helping them to do their job. Organisation is second nature to her and she is the first person to contact when things need to be coordinated. Find out more about what she does every day in the following interview.

How can we imagine your job?

I spend a lot of time in front of my computer and on the telephone. Organisation and communication are right at the top of my responsibilities. Interdepartmental meetings and the like need to be scheduled and coordinated.  I also plan and organise my boss’s schedule day-by-day, week-by-week, so that he always have what he needs on hand: an up-to-date meetings calendar, flights, rental cars, hotel rooms. That might not sound like all that much, but it is sometimes incredible just how many things he’s got on his schedule. I’m also often the first point of contact when someone needs to set up a meeting with the CEO.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I have a lot of contact with colleagues in every department and other GLS companies. It’s fun to plan and coordinate with them. I often have to coordinate with the CEO and COO of the GLS Group, too. And once everything’s worked well and a good result has been achieved, then I’m especially happy.

What advice would you give to a potential applicant?

For this job, you need to be flexible and good at communication and also have a certain talent for pragmatism in order to tackle some of the challenges that will come your way.

What makes GLS a special employer for you?

GLS gives me the freedom to organise my work flexibly. For my boss, it’s important that the results of my work are good. That’s what I especially appreciate about GLS.
